Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in the south-central part of Europe.Bosnia is a region that traces permanent human settlement back to the Neolithic age, during and after which it was populated by several Illyrian and Celtic civilizations. Conquered and ruled by Romans until the 6th century, it was later settled by Slavic tribes which split Bosnia into parts controlled by Serbs and Croats. During the middle ages, Bosnia gained independent state status, but was soon conquered by the Ottoman Empire for almost 500 years.

After the Turks, the region became part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, then after WWII, an independent Republic within Yugoslavia. In 1995 after 3 years of civil war, Bosnia once again was formed as an independent and sovereign state.

The current population is 4million. Ethnically, 45% of Bosnians are Muslim, 35% are Serb and 15% declare themselves as Croat. Culturally, politically, and socially, the country has one of the richest histories in the region.

In 2010, Lonely Planet's "Best In Travel" nominated the capital city of Sarajevo as one of the top ten cities to visit that year. Bosnia and Herzegovina remains one of the last undiscovered natural regions in Europe with vast tracts of wild and untouched nature attracting adventurers and nature lovers. National Geographic magazine named Bosnia and Herzegovina as the best mountain biking adventure destination for 2012. The country boasts the cleanest water and air in Europe; the greatest untouched forests; and the most wildlife- the best the Balkans have to offer.

The-most-travelled-watch spent a day in the city of Bijeljina, and captured just a few of the local attractions.
